Ex-reporter turns retailer, launches consumer friendly online store with 15,000 products

A former scam-busting reporter has turned his pro-consumer crusading into the latest in online retail shopping with the launch of http://www5starshopper.com, serving the continental United States.

Michael Funston, known as 'Big Mike' during more than three decades in the news media chasing crime, politics, environmental and consumer stories, is the man behind the website, featuring more than 15,000 products.

"My goal is to treat every customer as a person and not a dollar sign," says Big Mike, who retired after a successful 33-year career with one of North America's largest daily newspapers.

"With the economy crashing people need every break they can get and I'm giving them that," he says.
"They also need to know their hard-earned dollars aren't going to some online scammer or rip-off artist."

"There's something in the store for everyone, including a great selection of clothing, toys, books and games for babies and children, computers, digital cameras, camcorders and accessories, jewelry, books and many specialty items including organic and eco-friendly products," Big Mike says.

"I have a passion for the environment and that is reflected in my store especially with eco-friendly toys and clothing that are non-toxic, safe and comfortable for children, especially babies.''

The store also offers rewards points, which buyers have the option to donate to charity, and a gift registry. Prizes including a Las Vegas getaway are up for grabs in the http://www.5starshopper.com opening sweepstakes.

The store also features health and beauty products, including an extensive selection of perfumes and women's fashion accessories, home and living products, and video games and gear.

So what's the difference between this store and a thousand others?

"My price match guarantee, for one. Fi women's coats nd an online retailer who sells an identical product for less and I will match or better it. And for ALL products in the store, I eat the sales tax," says Big Mike

There are articles that offer consumers tips on shopping for flat screen TVs, digital cameras, video games, children's car seats and even what to look for in a diamond.

As for the nickname, Big Mike explains: "It started when I was a kid playing sports and I was usually the biggest guy on the team so they called me Big Mike and it stuck. My boyhood pals still call me Big Mike even though some of them are bigger than me."
