Five Charities To Give To This Christmas

In our economy it is a fact that many children and families will do without this year. It is a sad fact, but there is something that can be done. Donating to a local charity is a way to help a family in need this Christmas season.

Goodwill

You are helping many families when you donate items to Goodwill. There are so many unfortunate families that benefit from Goodwill and the great thing is you can clean out your closet and any clothes or items you no longer need can be used by someone else. You can make a huge difference in someone else's Christmas. There are many locations to drop off your items. To find a location near you, just log onto the Goodwill website and find the one most convenient for you.

Coats for Kids

Coats for Kids have been going strong now for 22 years. It's a wonderful charity and helps families provide coats for their children. The Junior League of Austin and Jack Brown Cleaners along with KASE 101 and KVUE all partner up to help with this event. The coat drive this year began in November and ended on December 3rd, but it's not too late to help someone in need. They will be distributing the coats for eligible children on December 6th at the Palmer Event Center. They always need help with distributing the coats, so if you missed the donation date, you can still help out by volunteering your time.

Blue Santa

Blue Santa is sponsored by the Austin Police Department and Austin Fire Department. It is designed to help needy families during the holiday season. They have been volunteering for the community since 1972 and have helped thousands of families. This year is no different. They don't just deliver gifts but help out with groceries as well. You can don women's coats ate your items, whether it is a new toy or groceries to any Blue Santa location in the Austin area. There are several locations, to find one near you visit their website. If you don't have any items to donate, you are always welcome to volunteer your time.
Brown Santa

Brown Santa is the same concept of Blue Santa, except it is sponsored by Travis County Sheriff's Department. They have been helping families in need since 1981. You can donate toys or food items to this charity as well. Like Blue Santa, they have many donation sites. They also distribution dates. To find a drop off site near you, or a distribution site, visit their website. You are also welcome to donate your time to help a family in need.

Bikes for Kids

For 12 years JB and Sandy from the 94.7 radio station have been collecting new bikes for kids. There are many families that will not be able to afford gifts for their children, and having a nice shiny new bike under the tree is a dream for many children! You can donate money for the purchase of a new bike to the charity. If you know a family in need, you can submit a story why you think this family deserves a new bike. It's a wonderful charity, and will make many children happy this Christmas.
